Description
Sometimes you only get one photo. Dad arrived at the Santa Rita Lodge in Madera Canyon, Arizona during peak hummingbird migration season certain he would return with many winning shots.
The thing about wildlife is that it is wild. And darn it if “peak migration” turned out to be less than stellar. Toward the end of the week’s shooting, Dad realized he really didn’t have a good picture. The pressure mounted and still nothing interesting filled his camera frame.
Finally the last day of shooting Dad captured this broad-billed hummingbird doing amazing aerial acrobatics all for a sip of nectar. This was the one and only portfolio-worthy picture from over 500 images taken during that week of watching and waiting.
