Description
Dad found this obliging herring gull keeping watch over Monterey Bay in California. People often call this common bird a “seagull”. You’ll often see them foraging for scraps around piers, fishing boats and dumps as well as agricultural fields and in the ocean.
While these birds may be a squawky bunch when feeding, they often spend hours lazing peacefully in large groups. They don’t seem particularly bothered by humans during their loafing time. Dad used a long lens, but he was able to get rather close to the gull without startling it.
