Description
The story behind the photo: Dad could see the picture in his head : a rough, tough cowboy having the ride of his life on a crazy bucking bronc. The likelihood of capturing such a ride by chance was pretty slim. So Dad set out to create the image that wouldn’t leave his head.
He photographed the cactus in southern Arizona. He found the horse and the original rider at his friend’s ranch in southeastern Arizona. Then Dad used Photoshop to merge the two images together.
But he didn’t like the way the cowboy looked in the final product. So he invited another cowboy over to the studio. This cowboy brought his own saddle and “rode” a sawhorse Dad set up in front of a blue screen.
Using software called Ultimatte Knockout, Dad removed the background and popped the new saddle and rider into the photo composite. He blended a bit more dust with the original shot and bingo! He had a great Old West photo.
