The Pelicans

Description

These brown pelicans were very cooperative models.  While roaming around Rockport, Texas Dad spotted this group hanging out on some rusting ships near the shore.

Brown pelicans hang out in Rockport year round thanks to the plentiful fish.  These amazing birds hunt by diving head first toward the water from up to 65 feet in the air.  The impact of their bodies stuns the small fish they eat.  The pelican then scoops up the fish and stores it in its expandable throat pouch.

When they aren’t fishing, pelicans like to rest together on jetties, mudflats or estuaries.
