Description
Each year hundreds of Sandhill cranes and snow geese winter at Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge in New Mexico. The cranes and geese head out in the frigid mornings just as the sun rises. They fly to local agricultural fields where they eat. In the evening they return to the marshes and ponds on the wildlife refuge to roost.
Dad captured this incredible sunrise departure from one of the viewing platforms at Bosque. The temperatures hovered in the low teens, but Dad felt the view was worth a little bit of cold.
